The beautiful Holy Cross Church is largely medieval and dates back to around the 13th century during which period Richard de Clare (then Lord of Glamorgan) was actively extending his authority in Glamorgan. In Llanblethian he founded the town of Cowbridge and in Miskin he founded the castle and town of Llantrisant. The church was initially a chapel of ease to the parish church at Llanblethian.
